Spend a day with one of the world’s top leadership development thinkers — the venerable Dr. Marshall Goldsmith — and this is the zen of his message.

He filled an auditorium, no surprise, with a rapt audience of top corporate executives. Interestingly, his focus was as much on the personal aspect of our lives as the professional. A confirmation of the confluence we are experiencing in this challenging, new, 24/7 world.

Here’s the best part: The importance of having Mojo in work/life, as opposed to Nojo (a wonderful counterpoint phrase invented at the request of his book editor).

What do you radiate? It makes a difference at work and at home!

In his excellent book, Goldsmith helps readers parse the activities of daily life and rank the happiness/satisfaction/value that they deliver. A life dominated by Nojo — lack of Mojo — can have difficult consequences. There are areas where we can take control, change and re-define the priorities in our work/life agenda.

His process gives hope to a better outcome — but it is grounded in reality. The world has changed and the optimal course is to change ourselves, not wait for things to return to a status quo that no longer exists.

Mojo is a powerful and empowering book — a path to something we all want.

In a world defined by change and challenge, Goldsmith shines a light on how we allocate our time and energy. He provides tools to deliver simpatico and improvement. It’s a seemingly simple — but strategic — message. Identify your happiness, then re-invent a life to deliver more of it. Delete Nojo, Add more Mojo. Be focused and disciplined. Give thanks and gratitude. Enjoy.

    Thank you, Marshall!

MOJO is a superb follow-up book to What Got You Here Won’t Get You There. While it may be hard to believe, MOJO is of higher quality, driving home countless pieces of ageless wisdom while consistently ‘warming the belly’. Read at your pace and delight, the gripping and vascular nature of this book will have you captivated from start to finish, propelling your mind to voraciously ingest as much information as humanly possible.

More to the point, find out who you are and what may be missing by thoughtfully exploring identity (reflected, programmed, remembered, and created). As all 4 of these identities contribute to your personhood, begin to understand yourself more fully and find out how to make the most of life now and in the future! In addition, get familiar with the 4 keys (identity, achievement, reputation, and acceptance) to open up limitless new possibilities in all aspects of your life, not just the personal side of it.

If there is 1 book that you need to read in the year 2010, this is it. By reading this book, a new level of personal awareness will be discovered, launching you to a new echelon of society that is free from the shackles of negative self-perceptions, nay-sayers, and people who get wrapped up in detrimental patterns of thinking.

If you want to run with the best, read the best – read MOJO. It’s never too late to reignite your passion before it is over.

I have known Marshall for more years than I can remember and have read just about everything he has written. The reason for this is he always has a fresh insight into the subject matter that is also practical. What I love about his latest book Mojo is that he “connects the dots” on something so pervasive that the rest of us a happy little fish swimming in those unaware waters. At it’s essence Mojo is about energy. He calls it a positive spirit that starts on the inside. What the book does is gives us insight into the interplay of four dimensions that together affect our current experience of happiness and meaning. I’m not going to give away the ending, I’m just saying it is worth the read to enlighten yourself as to what you are experiencing and what you may want to do to improve it. I’m a coach and trainer of leaders, and I’m giving a copy of this to every client I have.

I have collaborated with Marshall for several years on various publishing and marketing endeavors, and have enjoyed his books and storytelling abilities immensely. This book does not disappoint.

He captures the essence of what many of us have been experiencing since the Recession affected our personal and professional lives.

In his latest book, Marshall describes the key attributes you need to keep your MOJO (internally driven sense of purpose, fulfillment and joy) running. Then he takes it two steps farther. First, he provides a free, comprehensive survey tool to help you assess your MOJO score. Second, he shares dozens of stories, many which I promise will resonate with your own personal situation. This step is critical because as a leader, I often feel as if I am the only person who is experiencing that frustration.

GOGO and buy copies of MOJO for everyone who really matters in your life!

Marshall Goldsmith has written yet another gem! The book is practical and inspiring, and the section on gratitude and appreciation has particularly high impact. This mindset creates an energy field that can change individual leaders, their teams, their entire companies – and even the world. Marshall did a great job discussing a subject that can easily sound too soft in a way that helps the reader appreciate the power and impact of gratitude.

Mojo makes a strong contribution and is a book that I will recommend to many of our clients.
