I did finish this book – the plot was OK. BUT, Kaycee has to be the most annoying main character I have ever encountered. Shrieking, wailing, shaking, panicing, crying…….from a constantly screaming, sickly child to a self-centered, paranoid adult. Good thing the Kindle version was free.

Unfortunately, I’m one of those readers that once invested into a book, will not finish until the book is completed – no matter how terrible it is. Afterwards, I feel like I had wasted my time for those types of novels – and this was the case. I’ve downloaded her other book, but will certainly not be reading it.

It was difficult for me to relate to the characters – and the pace never picked up until close to the end. I understand that people have fears, but how realistic is the plot? To have someone’s fears realized in that manner? It just came together too quickly at the end – without a big bang to kick off the story.

While I was very grateful that Amazon offered this as a freebie, I was also very grateful that it WAS a freebie after reading! As a woman, I hate that Kaycee Rae is afraid of practically everything! What a stereo-type! And then you have the handsome concerned policeman that is the only one that truly believes her, and will come over and personally search her house for her, how many times? I think it was 4 or 5 times? I want to live in a town where the cute policeman will come to my house! :-)

I found myself hitting “next page” pretty quickly as I skimmed through the many pages of Kaycee going on and on and on about her fears…ENOUGH ALREADY!

AND, liking mysteries as much as I do, I like to try to figure out the ending before hand…I figured this out WAYYYYY before the ending!

Thanks, Amazon, for offering this for free…and I will read the other Collins book to see if better…Sorry for the bad review!

I am a little perplexed by all the raving reviews of this book. The story line moves extremely slowly and there is so much description that one can skim the pages as I did and still get the gist of everything without missing much. The end was unexpected and that was probably the most creative aspect of this book. Glad I downloaded the free Kindle version as I would have been disappointed had I paid for this book.

I’m not a fan of religious fiction. I normally wouldn’t read it but couldn’t tell from the plot synopsis that’s what this is. To me, that just takes away from what enjoyment there was in the by-the-numbers plot and took the story from so-so to not worth my time at all.
